Profile: Bill Stephens

I've spent my entire career as a Los Angeles-based writer, editor, photographer. With master's degrees in journalism (UCLA) and professional writing (USC), I started out working as an advertising copywriter. Later, I worked for the L.A. Times. For many years I was a writer-editor-photographer for ARCO's employee magazine. During that time, I also started up and edited newsletters for ARCO International and ARCO retirees.

For the last seven years, I've had my own freelance communications business, working with a network of top designers, photographers, and writers.

• I wrote and edited the "Products People" newsletter for ARCO Products' employees.
• I've edited electronic newsletters for ARCO Products and ARCO International.
• I've also done writing and newsletter editing for clients like AlliedSignal, Tenneco, Parker Drilling, FluorDaniel, Transamerica, Carrier, Prudential, and the Employers Group.
• I do publicity for a major electronic payment processor, including news releases, media kits, media campaigns, and media placement.
• I've written and edited a vendor newsletter for a major gasoline marketer.

I've published articles in several consumer and trade publications, including the L.A.Times and the Oil & Gas Journal. I'm a member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), and have won more than 20 awards for writing, editing, and photography.
